The actress will play Rachel McCord, a tough and highly-skilled Federal Investigator whose appearance plays a vital role in Beckett’s decisions about her future.
As you know, Season 5 ended with Beckett considering a move to Washington D.C. to work on a special task force in the U.S. Attorney General’s office — a decision presumably complicated by Rick proposing marriage in the very final scene.

Edelstein’s post-House credits include stints on The Good Wife, Elementary, House of Lies and, most recently, Scandal.

Lisa Edelstein has been cast in a multi-episode arc on the upcoming sixth season of Castle, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

According to TVLine, which first reported the casting, Edelstein will play Rachel McCord, a tough and talented federal investigator who could influence Beckett's decisions about her future. The end of Season 5 saw Beckett (Stana Katic) considering a move to Washington D.C. for a new job with the Attorney General's office, but the decision was made even more difficult when Castle (Nathan Fillion) asked her to marry him.
Edelstein, who starred on House for seven seasons, has since guest-starred on such shows as The Good Wife, Elementary and Scandal.

Ex-House inhabitant Lisa Edelstein is moving on to bigger and better digs — specifically, ABC’s Castle. EW has confirmed that Edelstein has booked a multi-episode arc on the crime drama’s sixth season. TVLine first reported the news.
Edelstein — who last appeared over the past TV season on Scandal, House of Lies, and Elementary — will play hard-core federal investigator Rachel McCord. It’s safe to say that the new character will have ties to Beckett (Stana Katic), who was planning to move to D.C. in May’s finale — until Castle (Nathan Fillion) unexpectedly proposed.

Lisa Edelstein will join "Castle" Season 6 for a guest arc, according to TVLine.
Edelstein will appear in multiple episodes as Rachel McCord, "a tough and highly-skilled Federal Investigator whose appearance plays a vital role in Beckett’s decisions about her future."
Beckett (Stana Katic) certainly needs all the help she can get, since she was poised to move to Washington, D.C., to join a special task force in the Season 5 finale ... right up until Castle (Nathan Fillion) proposed to her in the episode's final moments.
Fans were thrilled at the prospect of a married Kate and Rick for "Castle" Season 6, but Fillion recently admitted that he doesn't know whether Beckett will even accept the proposal.
"We did not shoot the answer," the actor told TVLine. “We did that last day of shooting on a Thursday. Friday, I came in and did some looping … and then left town immediately [to] work in Canada ... I’ve not had one email, not one discussion, not a phone call about where things are going, what’s going to happen ... So I can’t even spoil anything by accident!”
Regardless, co-star Tamala Jones, who plays medical examiner Lanie Parish, is certain that viewers won't be disappointed by Season 6.
"I know the sixth season is going to be better than any season we've ever done. I can feel it from the cast, from the writers, from everybody," she said, according to OTRC. "Everybody is just so excited. I mean, we kind of felt like we would have another season but, we never take anything for granted down on 'Castle.'"
"Castle" will return to ABC in the fall.

Lisa Edelstein, one of television’s most sought-after actresses, has joined the cast of ABC’s “Castle.”
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Edelstein will play Rachel McCord, a formidable federal investigator who directly affects the future of Kate Beckett, the role played by series star Stana Katic.
In the season 5 finale, Beckett was contemplating the idea of working for a task force connected to the US attorney general’s office, even though her partner, Castle (Nathan Fillion), had proposed. Edelstein will debut in the show’s season premiere.
Edelstein, 47, infamously quit her role as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the long-running Fox medical drama “House” in 2011 when the network asked her to take a pay cut for its eighth and final season. Although many insiders have wondered when she would sign on to star in another series, Edelstein has preferred making the rounds on some of TV’s best reviewed dramas.
Shortly after her “House” departure, the Boston-born actress had a story arc on “The Good Wife” as Celeste Serrano, a meddlesome attorney who was also the ex-girlfriend of that show’s tepid stud, Will Gardner (Josh Charles). Last season, Edelstein proved to have the knack for being on the right show at the right time — appearing the same night on “Elementary” and “Scandal.”

Castle Season 6: Stana Katic Dishes Thoughts on Beckett's Crossroads
Stana Katic has recently spoken about her character Beckett. And she is very specific about what she wants Castle's love to do.
"If she drops the FBI gig, she's a loser," Katic tells TV Guide in an interview about Castle Season 6. "This is a modern woman's story, and I don't want to send the message that a woman has to choose love over a career. New York and D.C. are not that far apart, and Rick's a millionaire. They can travel. I think it would really be a big disservice to the character to create a job opportunity like this and let it peter out."
Stana is quite the storyteller, too. What does she want to happen in Castle Season 6?
"Bring the 3XK killer back, which requires Kate to put together her own team. Sometimes we're all together in New York and sometimes we're telling different stories apart. Kate can have it all!"
Castle Season 6 Spoilers: New Characters Stepping In
Meanwhile, Lisa will be playing a "no-nonsense, intelligent detective." She'd be known in Castle as Rachel McCord. Will Rachel replace Kate at NYPD?
Actor Isaac Johnson is also joining Castle Season 6. On Instagram, Johnson posted what seems to be the Season 6 premiere episode script, and his name is listed as "federal agent." Also getting on board is a possible love interest for Alexis. Some guy called called Pi (Myko Olivier) will make Rick's daughter fall in love again. How will Rick feel about that?
Castle Season 6 will air in September.
